Launch of the EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change: Panel 1 - Impacts of climate change and adaptation action - State-of-Play

Adapting to climate change is crucial in order to reduce the risks and damage caused by the current and future impacts of climate change and exploit any possible benefits of it effectively. On 16 April 2013, the European Commission adopted a European Strategy on adaptation to climate change. This strategy was launched at a conference on 29 April 2013 bringing together political leaders and climate change adaption professionals. This one-day event was an occasion to present and discuss the new EU strategy, the framework it establishes, its main areas of intervention and the actions proposed. The main objective is to support the development of coherent adaptation policies within the EU at all levels and for all sectors. The participants in this debate include Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC in charge of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Jacqueline McGlade, Executive Director of the European Environment Agency (EEA), and Dominique Ristori, Director-General of the Joint Research Centre (JCR).
