Launch of the EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change: High Level round table on approaches to adaptation to Climate Change

Adapting to climate change is crucial in order to reduce the risks and damage caused by the current and future impacts of climate change and exploit any possible benefits of it effectively. On 16 April 2013, the European Commission adopted a European Strategy on adaptation to climate change. This strategy was launched at a conference on 29 April 2013 bringing together political leaders and climate change adaption professionals. This one-day event was an occasion to present and discuss the new EU strategy, the framework it establishes, its main areas of intervention and the actions proposed. The main objective is to support the development of coherent adaptation policies within the EU at all levels and for all sectors. The participants in this debate include Connie Hedegaard, Member of the EC in charge of Climate Action, Noel Casserly, employee of the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government, and Ville Niinistö, Finnish Minister of the Environment.
