Visit of Robert Fico, Slovak Prime Minister, to José Manuel Barroso
José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Inter-institutional Relations and Administration, received Robert Fico, Slovak Prime Minister. During the joint press conference the President stated that there was a real need to improve the use of the Structural and Rural Development Funds in Slovakia. Commission and Slovak experts were together analysing all possible solutions to improve the absorption of funds and speed up the implementation of cohesion policy programmes. Growth and job creation, unemployment and social inclusion remained the main issues that the country needed to address. José Manuel Barroso reassured the Prime Minister that the EC genuinely wanted to help Slovakia achieve these objectives.
