Press conference by Tonio Borg on findings of horse meat in meat products containing different type of meat

On 13 February 2013, Tonio Borg, Member of the EC in charge of Health and Consumer Policy, made a statement on horse meat issue ahead of the Agriculture informal meeting with the EU's most affected countries. On this occasion, he said that the European Commission is working closely with national authorities to identify the source of the problem. He also stressed that it is an issue of deceptive labelling, and not a health case at present. Agriculture Ministers from Germany, France, Britain, Luxembourg, Sweden, Romania and Poland will discuss in Brussels the scandal over horse meat in products labelled as beef.
