José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council, participated in the EU Children of Peace Prize ceremony. The Nobel Peace Prize® medal and diploma granted to the EU were shown at the Berlaymont before being permanently displayed at the House of Europe, a project of the EP.
The EU decided to double the Nobel Peace Prize® monetary award to a total of 2 million euro and to donate it to education projects that supported children in war and conflict zones. José Manuel Barroso then announced the EU Children of Peace laureates.
The Presidents' Gallery of the Berlaymont building displayed 32 individual portraits of the Laureates of the Nobel Peace Prize® by the photographer Peter Badge, proposed by the Lindau Foundation, and drawings of the winners of the contest for young people aged 8-24 years organised in partnership with the European Youth Forum.
