Success of the Marie Curie Actions ESOF 2012 Conference

The Marie Curie Actions organised a satellite event on the margin of the ESOF 2012 Conference in Dublin. ESOF stands for the European Science Open Forum. It is one of Europe's largest scientific fairs and takes place every two years. ESOF brings together stakeholders involved in European science: scientists, business executives and policy-makers. ESOF is a very popular conference in the scientific world, therefore the Marie Curie Actions usually organise a satellite event on the margin of the main conference. The next conference will take place in Copenhagen in 2014. The event gathered some 300 current and former Marie Curie Fellows who had the opportunity to network with each other and to develop some "soft skills" useful for their career development such as patenting and how to write successful grant proposals. The main theme of the 2012 conference was communicating research. There were a series of workshops on the various aspects of communication, including social media networking and speaking confidently to a non-scientific audience.
