Visit of Bujar Nishani, President of Albania, to José Manuel Barroso
José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Bujar Nishani, President of Albania. During the joint press conference José Manuel Barroso commended Albania's progress on a European reform agenda enabled by joint efforts between government and opposition. He encouraged the country to build on the momentum and continue in the important reforms, saying that candidate country status was within reach.
The President then highlighted that important steps that were achieved, like the adoption of the revised electoral code, provided the basis to continue with other important reforms. He added that no efforts and determination should be spared to address remaining issues pertaining to institutional reforms, the fight against corruption and organised crime and the respect for the rule of law, including an independent and efficient judiciary. He moreover welcomed Bujar Nishani's strong commitment in this area.
