José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, went to Germany where he met with Volker Bouffier, Minister-President of the Land of Hesse, and Jörg-Uwe Hahn, Deputy Minister-President of the Land of Hesse and Minister for Justice, Integration and European Affairs. In the immediate vicinity of Frankfurt, one of the most important financial centres of Europe and seat of the European Central Bank (ECB), José Manuel Barroso reiterated that the EC was working hard to ensure stability and more responsibility in the financial sector.
He added that this was precisely the purpose of the EC proposal for a single supervisory mechanism for all euro area banks that the Commission adopted two days before. The President highlighted that the financial centre of Frankfurt would greatly benefit from the central role of the ECB in banking supervision and enhanced stability.
On 15/09/2012 the President went to Kassel to notably visit the 13th edition of Documenta exhibition which took place every 5 years in the city. He also went to Paderborn, where he participated in a conference organised by the Junge Union entitled "Our Future, our Europe". The President ended his trip by a visit to the city of Oerlinghausen.
