20th anniversary of the single market

2012 marks the twentieth anniversary of the European Single Market. To celebrate this anniversary, a series of events in cities all across Europe will take place from 15 to 20 October 2012 under the slogan ''Together for new growth''. The activities will focus on three objectives: mobilizing the views and expectations of young adults about the single market; recalling the achievements of 20 years of the single market; and presenting and discussing new initiatives to stimulate growth in the single market. Over 200 national events will be organised all over Europe in the days and weeks following 15 October. They will bring together citizens, students, experts, businesses trade unions and public organisations to examine and discuss the state of the single market. Events will include forums, fairs, conferences, exhibitions, radio and TV programmes, etc. A launch event, to kick off Single Market Week, will take place in Brussels on 15 October 2012. The event will offer a unique opportunity for discussions and exchanges of views between citizens, businesses, stakeholders and prestigious guests such as José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, along with Michel Barnier, Member of the EC in charge of Internal Market and Services, and Jacques Delors, former President of the European Commission.
