Inaugural meeting of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU with the EC

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Demetris Christofias, President of Cyprus and President in office of the Council of the EU, participated in the inaugural meeting of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU with the EC.
During the joint press conference, José Manuel Barroso stated that the Cypriot government would rise to the challenges facing the EU as a strong and ambitious Presidency of the Council, delivering a strong and ambitious European agenda. He outlined a series of other issues on which quick progress should be made.
The President expressed the determination of the EC and of this Presidency to continue the efforts to strengthen the economic and budgetary surveillance. He also called on the EP and the Cypriot Presidency to come to a final agreement on the "two pack" swiftly.
He also explained the meaning of the logo of the Cypriot Presidency.
