Presentation of the programme of activities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, EP plenary session with the participation of José Manuel Barroso
José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, participated in the EP plenary session with a key debate on the programme of activities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU with Demetris Christofias, President of Cyprus. In his speech José Manuel Barroso said that the EC shared the objectives of the Presidency aimed at a stronger, more competitive Europe, based on sustainable growth, solidarity and social inclusion. He called on Cyprus to focus on issues where results can be achieved by the end of 2012. The President outlined in particular three main areas: to reach agreement on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) by the end of the year 2012; fast-tracking proposals of the Single Market; and ensuring stability of the Euro area and establishing a genuine Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).
