Visit of Petr Nečas, Czech Prime Minister, to José Manuel Barroso
José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Petr Nečas, Czech Prime Minister. During the joint press conference the President warmly welcomed Petr Nečas' backing for the EC twin-track strategy of sound public finances and growth, in line with the conclusions of the Brussels informal European Council held the day before. José Manuel Barroso agreed on the urgent need to reach an agreement on the EU 2013 budget which had to be focused on growth, on jobs and to address at the same time the social challenges. Very important part of the bilateral discussions was devoted to the issue of the implementation of the structural funds in the Czech Republic that was the biggest recipient country of Cohesion Policy in the EU for 2007-2013 in terms of the structural funds contribution per inhabitant. José Manuel Barroso stressed that it was more than ever vital to use EU funds efficiently, in a way that maximised their effects on growth and job creation and the benefits for Czech citizens.
