Means to combat the economic crisis particularly in the euro area, EP plenary session with the participation of José Manuel Barroso

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, participated in the EP plenary session which focused on the economic crisis in the euro area. The President first presented the employment package adopted on the same day by the College of the EC during its weekly meeting.
To create jobs across Europe and to meet the Europe 2020 employment target required the concerted efforts of all actors. This Communication put forward a range of actions at all levels. They included proposals to maximise the job creating effects of EU budget instruments; policy guidance on supporting job creation, especially in areas with great potential such as the green economy, health care and the ICT sector; and they suggested a number of labour market reforms.
The second Communication adopted by the EC was about "Growth for Greece". The set of priority actions it proposed range from promoting youth employment to tax reform, and investing in education to smarter regulation. These actions, if properly implemented, should quickly unblock growth, create jobs and mitigate the social impact of the crisis.
