José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Bakir Izetbegović, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the joint press conference José Manuel Barroso welcomed a number of recent positive developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the adoption of the State aid law and the census law which were crucial steps for progress on the country's European integration path.
He continued by stressing that despite the good progress that had been made in some areas, further work needed to be done so that Bosnia could realize its European perspective. The President underlined that a credible effort in bringing the country's Constitution into compliance with the European Convention on Human Rights was essential.
He added that he also expected progress regarding the implementation of the Sejdić-Finci ruling of the European Court of Human Rights. José Manuel Barroso concluded, as he said in his visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina in April 2011, that Bosnia was not alone and should not remain alone. He highlighted the commitment in the country's journey to the EU was clear and firm.
