José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Jim Costa, Member of the U.S. House of Representatives for California's 20th congressional district. At the meeting wide range of issues within EU/US relations were discussed with main focus on global economy.
The President also shared his view that the EU/US High Level Working Group on jobs and growth was progressing well and that a further liberalisation of EU/US Trade brought clear benefits to both sides.
José Manuel Barroso then welcomed that both sides were fully committed to continue the discussion towards this end. Briefly other topics were touched as well, such as the run-up to US presidential elections. The President also appreciated strong and effective bilateral cooperation with the United States in many areas, especially in Foreign Affairs.
