Visit of Raila Odinga, Kenyan Prime Minister, to José Manuel Barroso

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Raila Odinga, Kenyan Prime Minister. The President stated that Kenya was a very important partner for the EU in the stabilization and development of the Horn of Africa region. He welcomed Kenya's decision to integrate its forces in Somalia into the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and all the efforts that the country was making to bring stability to the region.
José Manuel Barroso then highlighted that together, the EU and Kenya, could contribute to greater security in Somalia and to restore peace and stability in the region. Furthermore the President stressed that the upcoming elections would be an important benchmark in Kenya's reform and reconciliation path.
He concluded that the EU, through its programmes and support in the agriculture, roads, water, governance and human rights sectors, contributed already to strengthen the resilience of the most vulnerable communities in Kenya, in particular those affected by recurrent droughts and pledged to provide additional support.
