José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Zoran Milanović, Croatian Prime Minister. The President congratulated him on his recent appointment and the successful result of the Croatian accession referendum. He stressed that with this solid mandate, the new Government should continue on the reform path towards full EU membership in July 2013 and ensure that all the commitments taken in the accession negotiations were fully respected, notably in the fields of the judiciary and human rights and competition. The EC would continue to monitor this process.
The two leaders also discussed the informal European Council which was held on the same day agreeing on the need to boost growth and jobs for Europe's citizens.
