Algirdas Šemeta - Operation Barrel

In October 2011, OLAF supported a Joint Customs Operation (JCO) during which border controls were carried out in Poland and several other Member States along the EU Eastern border. The main purpose of this operation was to intercept smuggled cigarettes and drug precursors originating from China and other Asian countries crossing the external land frontier of the EU by rail-freight as well as to dismantle international fraud organisations involved in such illicit traffic.
