José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, made a statement on the reported death of Mouammar Kadhafi. In a joint statement José Manuel Barroso and Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council, said that the reported death of Mouammar Kadhafi marked the end of an era of despotism and repression from which the Libyan people have suffered for too long. Libya could turn a page in its history and embrace a new democratic future. The Presidents together called on the National Transitional Council to pursue a broad based reconciliation process which reached out to all Libyans and enabled a democratic, peaceful and transparent transition in the country.
