Young people have been hard hit by the economic crisis as they often lack the experience and skills to be competitive. Today one in five young Europeans cannot find a job. The Youth@Work campaign however, aims to show that thanks to their fresh take on the world, young people often have lots of energy and innovative ideas which can be useful to businesses.
In Sweden, the unemployment rate among young people was 24% in 2010. However, even if young people tend to be more attracted by working in multinational firms, 99.8% of the enterprises in Sweden are SMEs. Umbilical Design is one of them. According to founder and CEO Cecilia Hertz, it’s usually people below 30 that come up with creative ideas and ask the unexpected questions. That’s the reason why she likes to involve them in many of her company’s projects.
