Speech by José Manuel Barroso at the Australian National University

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, made a speech entitled "Shared futures: Europe and Australia in the 21st century" at the Australian National University (ANU). He noted that Australia showed it was possible to combine economic reform with strong social protections and progress. He also stressed that the EU welcomed the Australian Government’s efforts to tackle the carbon issue
