14th Summit of the Chairmen of the EPP Parliamentary Groups with the participation of José Manuel Barroso

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, participated in the 14th Summit of the Chairmen of the EPP Parliamentary Groups. Discussions focused on the European semester and Schengen. The President stressed the importance of national parliaments in EU affairs, especially since the Lisbon Treaty allows them to be more involved. While fully respecting the principle of subsidiarity, José Manuel Barroso pleaded for more Europe, in particular in crisis times, and for a realistic but ambitious budget in order to achieve the goals of the Europe 2020 strategy.
