"Chernobyl, 25 Years On: Safety for the Future" conference with the participation of José Manuel Barroso

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, went to Ukraine where he notably participated in the Chernobyl Shelter Nuclear Safety Account Pledging Conference. This event aimed to to raise funds to help with the after-effects of the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl. The goal was to build a new containment structure over the remains of a reactor that exploded on April 26, 1986. The EC pledged €110 million to complete safety work on Chernobyl site.
