Education: Erasmus for All (2011)

7 562 views

Youth on the Move is a new flagship initiative aimed at helping young people to gain the knowledge, skills and experience they need to make their first job a reality. Youth on the Move aims to extend opportunities for learning mobility to all young people in Europe by 2020. Around 400 000 young people are set to benefit from EU mobility programmes in 2011: Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci and Youth in Action. Youth on the Move is a campaign aimed at encouraging young people to spend part of their studies or training abroad, or to volunteer abroad. The objective is that they improve their language skills as well as broader intercultural skills so that they increase their personal development and employability. This is vital at a time of increased youth unemployment. The Commission wants to increase its budget for these education, training and youth programmes by more than 70 per cent in 2014-2020, and to bring them under a single, simplified programme. This would bring new synergies and enable the Commission to double the number of young people receiving EU mobility grants i.e. 800 000 a year compared to now.
