Signature de la Convention de Lomé II

Une cérémonie officielle a marqué le 31 octobre 1979 à Lomé, la signature de la deuxième convention CE-ACP, appellée à remplacer la première convention de Lomé, signée en février 1975. Les CE étaient représentées par Michael O'Kennedy, ministre irlandais des Affaires étrangères et président en exercice du Conseil; Claude Cheysson, membre de la CCE chargé du Développement, et Simone Veil, présidente du PE. Par ailleurs Bernard St John, vice-Premier ministre de Barbade et président en exercice du Conseil des ministres ACP, était présent. Les discours prononcés à Lomé, ont mis l'accent sur la signification profonde de ce nouveau contrat de coopération conclu entre les CE et près de soixante états d'Afrique, des Caraïbes et du Pacifique; dégagé les grandes lignes de la Convention; souligné les innovations qu'elle apporte et évoqué les problème des droits de l'Homme.
