Extracts from the press conference by Štefan Füle on the adoption of the 2012 Enlargement Package (potential candidates)
On 10 October 2012, Štefan Füle, Member of the EC in charge of Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, presented the 2012 Enlargement Package adopted by the European Commission on the same day.
The European Commission recommends that Albania be granted EU candidate status, subject to completion of key measures in the areas of judicial and public administration reform and the revision of the parliamentary rules of procedures are revised. The Commission will also assess the further efforts of Albania in the fight against corruption and organised crime.
The Commission concluded that Bosnia and Herzegovina has made limited progress towards meeting the political criteria and achieving more functional, coordinated and sustainable institutional structures. The need for an effective coordination mechanism between various levels of government on EU matters remains to be addressed as a matter of priority, as does meeting the conditions for entry into force of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement and for a credible membership application.
The Commission confirms that Kosovo is largely ready to open negotiations for a Stabilisation and Association Agreement. The Commission will propose negotiating directives for such an agreement once Kosovo has made progress in meeting short-term priorities. SHOTLISTLINKLINKLINK
