Visit of José Manuel Barroso to Athens: extracts from the joint press briefing with Antonis Samaras, Greek Prime Minister

On 26 July 2012, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, travelled to Athens for bilateral talks with Antonis Samaras, Greek Prime Minister, on the broad economic situation in Europe and particularly on the economic difficulties in Greece. Both leaders discussed the country's progress under its bailout package. Making his first trip to Greece in nearly three years, José Manuel Barroso pushed the new government to speed up reforms, particularly its privatisation programme.
