Extracts from the joint press conference by László Andor and Yves Leterme, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD, on a report on green jobs
On 4 June 2012, Yves Leterme, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD, paid a visit to László Andor, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, in Brussels. After their meeting they held a joint press briefing. During this conference, László Andor welcomed the OECD study "The jobs potential of a shift towards a low carbon economy".
The OECD study stressed that EU labour markets should be more open and dynamic and supported measures to reduce insecurity due to job displacement. It underlined the key functions of public employment services and labour market programmes.
The strategy outlined by the OECD study also includes fostering eco-innovation and green skills development through education and training and making the tax and benefit system more supportive of employment by shifting taxes away from labour and recycling tax revenues from carbon pricing. SHOTLIST
