Press conference on Local Farming and short Food Supply Chains with the participation of Dacian Cioloș and John Dalli
On 20 April 2012, Dacian Cioloş, Member of the EC in charge of Agriculture and Rural Development, John Dalli, Member of the EC in charge Health and Consumer Policy, Carlo Petrini, founder of the International Slow Food Movement, Reinhold Messner, Alpinist and former Member of the EP, gave a press conference on Local Farming and short Food Supply Chains.
This conference explored ways and means to mobilise and value the economic potential of local agriculture and short food supply chains.
The CAP reform proposals for post 2013 adopted by the European Commission on 12 October 2011 envisage a number of new possibilities for the economic development of small-scale farming with a local market orientation. In addition, other CAP policies and EU legislation on food hygiene are important for growth on such holdings.
