On 9 November 2011 in Brussels, Algirdas Šemeta, Member of the EC in charge of Taxation and Customs Union, Audit, Anti-Fraud and Eurostat, and John Dalli, Member of the EC in charge of Health and Consumer Policy, gave a joint press conference on the proposal for the FISCUS Programme and on the proposals for the new Health for Growth and Consumer Programmes. FISCUS will support the cooperation between customs and tax authorities and other parties, to help maximise their efficiency and avoid mismatches in their work, which could hinder the Internal Market. With a budget of 777.6 million euro, the programme will run for 7 years from 1 January 2014. The programme will also provide the possibility of country-specific assistance when particular challenges call for it. It will facilitate networking, joint actions and training amongst tax and customs personnel. As John Dalli explained the proposals that European Commission adopted for the new Health for Growth and Consumer Programmes. These two programmes aimed to foster a Europe of healthy, active, informed and empowered citizens, who could contribute to economic growth. It will run from 2014-2020 with a budget of 446 million euro for the Health for Growth Programme and 197 million euro for the Consumer Programme. Focus will be on fewer concrete actions that offer clear EU added-value.
