Press conference by Günther Oettinger on the agreed nuclear stress tests
From 1 June 2011 onwards, all 143 nuclear power plants in the EU were re-assessed using EU wide criteria. These were comprehensive tests as the Commission had called for which embraced both natural and man made hazards (i.e. effects of airplane crashes and terrorist attacks).
On 25/05/2011, the European Commission and the European Nuclear Safety Regulators' Group (ENSREG) agreed on the criteria covered and the way controls would be done.
Günther Oettinger, Member of the EC in charge of Energy, and Andrej Stritar, Chairman of ENSREG (European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group) and Head of the Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration, gave a press conference to explain the agreed nuclear stress tests.
