Visit of Maggie Hughes, British campaigner for victims' rights, to Viviane Reding: joint press statements
On 18/05/2011, Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship, and Maggie Hughes, British Campaigner for victims' rights, held joint press statements after the Vice-President presented the EC proposals to strengthen the rights of crime victims in Europe.
Indeed, the European Commission was proposing a package of measures to ensure a minimum level of rights, support and protection for victims across the EU, no matter where they came from or live. Since the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, the EU had an explicit competence to legislate on the rights of victims of crime.
