Foreign Affairs Council, 3005th meeting: extracts from the doorstep by Tony Blair, Middle East Quartet Representative, following his meeting
On 22/03/2010, in the margins of the 3005th meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council, Foreign Affairs Ministers gathered in Brussels and discussed the Middle East Peace Process in the presence of Tony Bair, Middle East Quartet Representative.
Ministers exchanged views on the Middle East Peace Process, following Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC's visit to the region.
Tony Blair stressed that they had a very constructive discussion about the Israeli-Palestinian situation.
'We agreed on two things: first of all, to get back on direct negotiations, as soon as possible, between the two parties on all the core issues and secondly, to support that, by a ground back work which Europe is playing big part in' said Tony Blair.
He added: 'And the events of the past couple of week have been very serious, they have been a set back but the set back occured and the key thing is now, to get back on track again and get the negotiations going on and start.' SHOTLIST
