Inaugural JRC Annual Lecture "Europe and the United States, a crucial moment for Science Cooperation"
To mark the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the European Commission's first research site in Ispra, Janez Potočnik, Member of the EC in charge of Science and Research, and Roland Schenkel, Director-General of the Joint Research Centre launched a new JRC initiative that will become a centre-piece of the JRC's annual calendar on 28/10/2009.
Each year, a guest speaker will be invited to give a keynote public address on a scientific issue of global importance. Alan Leshner, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and Executive Publisher of the journal Science, gave the inaugural address and has chosen to speak on the subject of Europe and the United States: a crucial moment for science cooperation.
The mission of the Joint Research Centre is to provide customer-driven scientific and technical support for the conception, development, implementation and monitoring of European Union policies. As a service of the European Commission, the Joint Research Centre functions as a reference centre of science and technology for the Union. Close to the policy-making process, it serves the common interest of the Member States, while being independent of special interests, whether private or national. SHOTLISTLINKLINKLINK
