The European Union and Tadjikistan held their second Cooperation Council today in Brussels, since the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) between the EU and Tajikistan was signed in October 2004 and entered into force on 1 January 2010.

Both sides expressed their wish to deepen the bilateral relations, covering issues such as political reforms, human rights, economic relations, foreign policy and trade. The EU and Tajikistan share common challenges like drug trafficking, environment or Afghanistan.

Today's discussions included political reforms, human rights, economic relations, foreign policy and trade. The EU and Tajikistan share many common challenges like drug trafficking or environment. Working together is a benefit to both partners. Both sides want to strengthen their cooperation.

SOUNDBITE (English) by Khamrokhon Zarifi, Tajik Foreign Affairs Minister, saying that, in addition, they talked today about regional issues, including regional cooperation in Afghanistan and the particular problem of the withdrawal of coalition after 2014. What can do both the EU and Tajikistan to keep this region secure and avoid threats coming from Afghanistan. Both sides agreed today to continue an open dialogue on these issues.
