Signature of the Treaties of Rome
The signature of the Rome's treaties by the governments of six Member States, took place in the Capitole's room of the Horaces and the Curiaces. These treaties establishing the European Economic Community (EEC) and the European Atomic Energy Community (EAEC-EURATOM) envisaged in particular the setting of a customs union and the creation of institutions: the Commission, the Council, the Parliament and the Court of Justice.
The signatories representing the 6 European Nations included Konrad Adenauer, German Federal Chancellor, and Walter Hallstein, German Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Paul-Henri Spaak, Jean-Charles Snoy et d’Oppuers, Secretary General to the Belgian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Christian Pineau, French Minister for Foreign Affairs , Maurice Faure, French Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Joseph Bech, Luxembourgish Prime Minister, and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Lambert Schaus, Ambassador of Luxembourg to Belgium, Joseph Luns, Dutch Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Johannes Linthorst-Homan, Director for European Integration at the Directorate-General for Foreign Economic Relations of the Dutch Ministry for Economic Affairs.
