Special meeting of the European Council, 30/08/2014

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, Jean-Claude Juncker, President-elect of the EC, and the Heads of State or Government of the EU met in Brussels for a special meeting of the European Council hosted by Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council. Discussions focused on the deteriorating situation in Ukraine, on job creation, based on growth, and on a number of key appointments to be made for top EU positions. Donald Tusk, Polish Prime Minister, and Federica Mogherini, Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs, had been therefore chosen respectively as President designate of the European Council and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
