Visit of José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, to Brazil

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, went to Brasilia where he attended a reception in his honour in the presence of Henrique Paim, Brazilian Minister for Education, and Augusto Nardes, President of the Federal Court of Accounts of Brazil (TCU - Tribunal de Contas da União). Ana Paula Zacarias, Head of the delegation of the EU in Brazil, hosted the reception and accompanied José Manuel Barroso during his several meetings in Brazil.
The day after the President received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Brasilia (UnB) from the hands of Ivan Marques de Toledo Camargo, Rector of the UnB. He then met with Dilma Rousseff, President of Brazil, and paid a courtesy visit to the TCU.
On 19/07, José Manuel Barroso travelled to Rio de Janeiro to visit Porto Maravilha project, one of the major revitalization initiatives for Rio’s Centro district, with Eduardo Paes, Mayor of Rio de Janeiro. The city government was working on this project, with the Urban Development Company of the Region of Port of Rio de Janeiro (Cdurp - Companhia de Desenvolvimento Urbano da Região do Porto do Rio de Janeiro), under the 2016 Olympic Games countdown.
The day after the President visited the Roberto Burle Marx Foundation in the Rio's Barra de Guaratiba district, together with Marlon da Costa Souza, Head of Technical Service of the site of the Roberto Burle Marx Foundation. The Foundation managed the 100-acres farmhouse and studio of the landscape architect and garden designer Roberto Burle Marx.
For his last day of visit José Manuel Barroso attended a seminar entitled "European Union and Brazil in the current international scenario" together with Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, President of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV). He also visited the headquarters of the Foundation. The President eventually met with Luiz Fernando Pezão, Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
