Special meeting of the European Council, 16/07/2014

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, and the Heads of State or Government of the EU met in Brussels for a special meeting of the European Council hosted by Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council. Discussions focused on a number of key appointments to be made for top EU positions. The leaders also discussed new sanctions on Russia and the situation in the Middle East. The next special meeting of the European Council had been scheduled on 30/08/2014.
