Visit of José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, to Florence

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, went to Florence, where he made a speech entitled "Keeping our collective memory alive" during the State of the Union conference 2014 of the European University Institute (EUI), in the presence of Joseph Weiler, President of the EUI. José Manuel Barroso presented the book "The European Commission 1973-1986 - History and Memories" on this occasion.
Building on his speech at the Humboldt University of Berlin the same day, the President continued to share his experiences of two mandates as President of the EC, setting out his views on the future of the European Union.
The day after, on Europe Day, he participated in a public conversation about "10 years in office, the road ahead" with Tony Barber, Europe Editor and Associate Editor of the Financial Times (FT). José Manuel Barroso then visited the Historical Archives of the EU at Villa Salviati and he met with Matteo Renzi, Italian Prime Minister.
