European Consumer Summit 2014
Neven Mimica, Member of the EC in charge of Consumer Policy, participated in the European Consumer Summit 2014, which focused on how it was possible to ensure that consumers reap the full benefits from the digital sector. Neven Mimica made a speech entitled "Keeping Consumer Policy fit for the Digital Era" on this occasion.
Completing the digital single market would benefit EU consumers by on average €400 a year, some €200 billion Europe wide. The digital economy brought real benefits for consumers, but it also raised important questions about consumers’ rights online.
The edition 2014 of the Summit brought together some 400 participants representing the EP, the EC, national Governments, consumer and business associations, enforcement and regulatory authorities, the European Consumer Centres as well as the European Data Protection Supervisor.
