Visit by Connie Hedegaard, Member of the EC, to China

Connie Hedegaard, Member of the EC in charge of Climate Action, travelled to Beijing to discuss developments in climate action in Europe and China, as well as opportunities for EU-China cooperation and perspectives for the global climate agreement to be adopted at the 20th United Nations climate conference, which will take place in Paris in 2015.
Connie Hedegaard met with several high-level Chinese public figures, such as Xu Shaoshi, Chairman of the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Xie Zhenhua, Vice-Chairman of the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), and Li Baodong, Chinese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs. She also met with NGOs representatives and gave a guest lecture at the Tsinghua University.
During her stay in China, Connie Hedeggard also visited the city of Zhenjiang in the Jiangsu Province, including a demonstration zone for low carbon development in industries. The other visited projects were the Zhenjiang Science and Technology New City Experimental School, which focused on low carbon education, as well as the Guangda Environment and Energy Corporation, which has developed a waste incinerator project.
