Participation of Maria Damanaki, Member of the EC, at the International Fishing Capacity Conference, in Thessaloniki, 13-14/03/2014
Maria Damanaki, Member of the EC in charge of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, went to Thessaloniki, to participate in the international conference on sustainable fishing capacity management, organised on 13 and 14 March, under the auspices of the Greek Presidency. The conference entitled " Fishing Overcapacity – Less is more" was held against the backdrop of the new external dimension of the reformed Common Fisheries Policy which strengthens the EU's international commitment to addressing overcapacity at a global level. The other participants at the conference included: Athanasios Tsaftaris, Greek Minister for Rural Development and Food and President in office of the Council of the EU, Pierre-Yves Cousteau, Goodwill Ambassador of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and Stefaan Depypere, Director at the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries DG of the EC.
