Press conference by Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC, following the vote of the EP approving the practical programme to train and deploy European volunteers in humanitarian projects, followed an online chat

Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC in charge of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, and Michèle Striffler, Member of the EP, held a joint press conference after the EP approved in plenary session the legislation on the European Voluntary Humanitarian Aid Corps. The draft legislation states that the European volunteers will be trained to meet the specific humanitarian needs in times of crisis. The budget for the initiative is €147.9 million from 2014 to 2020.
Pending approval at the Council of Ministers, the new legislation is expected to enter into force in April 2014.
At the end of the press conference, Kristalina Georgieva participated in an online chat on the subject, together with several EU Aid Volunteers.
