Signature of a contract for the financial support of 12 million euro to the OPCW to help destroy Syrian chemical stockpiles

Andris Piebalgs, Member of the EC in charge of Development, received Ahmet Üzümcü, Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), as part of the Signature of a contract for the financial support of €12 million to the OPCW to help destroy Syrian chemical stockpiles. The amount contributed to the Trust Fund established by the OPCW, recipient of the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize.
The contribution was pledged by EU High Representative Catherine Ashton in December 2014 and has now become a reality with the signing of the contract by Andris Piebalgs.
