High level meeting on the Sahel, organised by the EEAS

Pierre Vimont, Executive Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Nicholas Westcott, Managing Director for Africa in the European External Action Service (EEAS), participated in the high level meeting on the Sahel, which was organised in Brussels.
Mali hosts the Presidency of the international coordination platform for the Sahel, which was established on 5 November 2013, in Bamako, during a joint visit to the region with the leaders of the EC, United Nations, World Bank, African Union Commission and African Development Bank Group.
In this respect, Oumar Tatam Ly, Malian Prime Minister, delivered the opening speech of the high level meeting on the Sahel while Cheick Oumar Diarrah, Malian Minister for National Reconciliation and Development of Northern Regions, chaired the event.
At the end of the meeting, Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC in charge of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, invited the participants to a working breakfast. Among them, there were: Smaïl Chergui, Member of the African Union Commission (AUC) in charge of Peace and Security, Kadré Désiré Ouedraogo, President of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas), Cheikh Hadjibou Soumaré, President of the West African Economic and Monetary Union Commission (UEMOA), Ahmed Ould Teguedi, Mauritanian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Saïd Djinnit, Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA).
