Visit of Donald Tusk, Polish Prime Minister, to the EC

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Donald Tusk, Polish Prime Minister. Discussions focused on the situation in Ukraine and some economic issues, looking to the following European Council to be held in March 2014.
During the joint press conference José Manuel Barroso stressed that violence and intimidation had to stop as they were clearly not the answer to the crisis in Ukraine. Both the President and the Prime Minister agreed on the need to continue de-escalating the tension in this country. José Manuel Barroso added that the EU was determined to keep its full political involvement in the settlement of the crisis in Ukraine.
Regarding the economic situation in Europe, the President said that massive efforts had been made to beat the crisis. Signs of recovery were multiplying but many challenges remained and it was not foreseeable to say the crisis was over when unemployment was still so high.
