Visit of Catherine Ashton, Vice-President of the EC, to Switzerland

Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, went to Geneva, where she met with Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, and Lakhdar Brahimi, Special Representative of the UN and the League of Arab States for Syria. The Vice-President then participated in the E3/EU+3 talks with Iran over the nuclear programme of the country.
The day after Catherine Ashton participated in the Geneva II Middle East peace conference. It gathered for the first time the opposition and the Syrian regime.
