Visit by Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC, to Lithuania

Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC in charge of Regional Policy, travelled to Vilnius to participate in the Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. Key players discussed how to take the strategy forward and build on what had already been achieved. In particular the focus was on how tackling the environmental challenges in the region can deliver benefits in terms of growth and jobs.
Confirming the Commission's own evaluation of the macro regional strategies, the Member States also considered more can be done through better governance. They have called for a review of how the Baltic and the Danube Strategy are managed with a view to improving on their successes. This review, spearheaded in the Council by the Lithuanian presidency, was launched in the Baltic region at this week's Forum and will be delivered by the end of next year.
During the forum, Johannes Hahn also visited "Networking Village" together with Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of Lithuania.
