On 19 August 2013 it was celebrated the World Humanitarian Day. In 2013, the EC's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO) supported two campaigns organised by two high profile partners.
Firstly, the important campaign implemented by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), "Health Care in Danger" aiming to improve security and efficiency of health care delivery in armed conflict and other emergencies.
Additionally ECHO supports a worldwide action launched by the Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs of the United Nations (UNOCHA) aiming at creating a global movement around the thematic "The world needs more…".
On this occasion, Nadim Karkutli, Deputy Head of the Unit "Information and Communication" at the DG "Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection" of the EC, Kim Eling, Member of cabinet of Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC in charge of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, and Vincent Hubin, Deputy Head of the Liaison Office in Brussels of the UN OCHA, participated in the balloon release organised on the esplanade of the Berlaymont, with the slogan "The world needs more humanity".
